Today, more and more master archives with original recordings are becoming inaccessible. This means that many recordings are at risk of being lost. At the same time, the quality of the original tapes has become so poor that many of the tapes are difficult, if not impossible, to play. Some of the types of tapes that were state-of-the-art in the 1980s have become "sticky" because of dampness. In many cases, the tape must be heat treated – a very expensive method – before it can be played. However, there is a solution – just ask us.

When you have your material digitised by Dicentia, we supply it in a high-resolution digital format as well as on ordinary CDs.

The quality of digital sound has long been the subject of debate. In the last couple of years, the equipment for converting sound to digital formats has become good enough to meet the standards that we demand before an original recording can be preserved. The pricing for digital archiving has also become competitive. To protect the sensitive transition from analogue to digital signals, we recommend quality assurance during the digitisation process and restoration from the reel-to-reel tape machine that was used for producing the recording.
